Common Display Problems That Leave You Wondering What You Clicked (And How to Fix Them…or When to Call Little Dog Tech)

One minute, everything looks normal. The next? Your icons are scattered, your fonts are huge, and the taskbar’s living its best life at the top of your screen. Sound familiar?

You’re not alone. It’s surprisingly easy to click the wrong thing or bump the wrong key and change how your screen looks. The good news? Most display problems are harmless and fixable if you know what to look for.

Websites Look Giant (or Tiny)

If your browser suddenly looks zoomed in or out, you probably triggered a keyboard shortcut by accident.

The fix:

  • Hold down the CTRL key.
  • While holding it, scroll your mouse wheel up or down.
  • Adjust until everything looks right again (100% is the default).

Still looks weird across everything? It might be a screen resolution issue; something we can help with, especially if your icons and windows aren’t fitting right.

Taskbar in a Weird Spot?

Windows taskbar no longer at the bottom? Maybe it’s floating on the side or stretched out oddly? This usually happens when it gets accidentally dragged.

Try this:

  • Click and drag the taskbar back to where you want it.
  • Resize it by hovering over its edge and dragging.
  • Want to stop it from moving again? Right-click the taskbar and select “Lock the taskbar.”

If it won’t budge or acts buggy, especially with multiple screens, let us take a look.

Icons All Over the Place

Your carefully placed desktop icons are suddenly jumbled. What gives?

On Windows:

  • Right-click a blank part of the desktop.
  • Under View, turn off Auto arrange icons if you want to place them freely.
  • Check Sort by options to reorder how you like.

On Mac:

  • Click the desktop, then select View in the top menu.
  • Choose Sort By (or None for full control).

Unfortunately, there’s no magic “undo” button if the layout resets, but once it’s back the way you like it, your system should remember.
