We get this one a lot: “How long should my computer last?” And the answer is… it depends.
Some computers are still chugging along after a decade, while others wave the white flag after just a few years. It all comes down to what you started with, how it’s been used, and whether it’s been shown a little love along the way.

It Starts With What You Bought
Whether you started with a cheap consumer-grade laptop from a big box store or a higher-quality commercial-grade machine like a Dell Latitude, OptiPlex, HP ProBook, or EliteBook.
Commercial-grade computers are built tougher and designed to handle daily work for years. We typically expect 5–7 years from a commercial machine, but only 3–5 from a bargain consumer model. That’s exactly why we only refurbish commercial-grade systems, because they’re worth the investment.
But if your computer was more of a “just get me online” kind of purchase, it may have been working near its limits all along. That can make it feel old much faster, even if it isn’t technically that old.
